2002 Community Service
Award Winner

| The Community Service Award is presented annually to a member of MNCBIA by the Home Builders Care Foundation. Each year, the award recognizes an individual or company for outstanding contributions to the community through unselfish efforts and dedication in support of shelter-related projects. The 2002 Community Service Award winner is Floors Inc. The company was recognized for their generous work on major HBCF projects during the past year and for their staunch support of the Home Builders Care Foundation and its mission. | |
Curt Adkins, Craftstar Homes and HBCF Board member commented, "Al Shields and his team at Floors Inc. are true professionals, committed to improving our industry and community. They have never let me down."
The company's most notable HBCF contribution in 2002 is their generous in-kind donation to the foundation's year-long project to renovate a 70-year home operated by The ARC of Prince George’s County. The house, home to four mentally challenged adult males and their live-in counselor, was in need of many new items and repairs. The project, estimated to cost close to $100,000, amounted to just over $17,000, thanks to generous in-kind donations of MNCBIA members such as Floors, Inc. The company donated and installed new flooring and carpeting throughout the two-story house.
Floors Inc. also contributed to HBCF’s most recent project at Our House, a residential job training program in Montgomery County. Under a very tight schedule to facilitate their move to a new location, Floors Inc. once again came through to help, installing new carpeting throughout the renovated farmhouse on short notice and at a reduced cost.
In addition to these contributions, the company helped HBCF pledge to assist the Transitional Housing Corporation’s Partner Arms II project and replace flooring in a vacant 13 unit complex that will serve homeless families in Washington DC. They have also agreed to help out on HBCF’s upcoming Gospel Rescue Mission project, also in the District.
"These guys say yes and it's always pleasure to work with them." states HBCF Board Member Mike Conley of Winchester Homes.
This year marks the second time that Floors Inc. has merited the Community Service Award, winning it back in 1995. Home Builders Care Foundation is proud to present the award to the company once again. Floors Inc. has consistently shown that Builders Who Share Show That They Care. Congratulations!
