District of Columbia
HomeAid DC – In mid 2007, Home Builders Care Foundation entered into an agreement with HomeAid America to launch a new HomeAid Washington D.C. chapter. The aim of this collaboration is to help HBCF further extend our community service efforts in the District of Columbia by gaining access to HomeAid’s network of national resources and potential funding sources outside of the local building industry.
HBCF anticipates that this new endeavor will greatly enhance our impact serving the poor and homeless in the city who are some of the neediest among us. HomeAid DC will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Home Builders Care Foundation and undertake projects within the District of Columbia only. All shelter-related projects in our Maryland jurisdictions will continue to operate under the Home Builders Care name as usual.
Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) – As the beneficiary of HBCF's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, the CAFB received hundreds of food bags that were collected by HBCF, HomeAid Washington DC and HomeAid Northern Virginia on October 30 at the Greater Washington Builders Expo. Close to 1000 pounds of non-perishable food items were donated by attendees and exhibitors at the expo. The CAFB is the largest non-governmental, non-profit food distribution and hunger education resource in our greater metropolitan area. It partners with over 700 agencies throughout our communities to nourish children, seniors and families in need. Many of these agencies help the homeless and are friends of HomeAid and Home Builders Care.
Yellow Ribbon Fund - In November 2007, HBCF committed to assist the Yellow Ribbon Fund (YRF) in supporting our nation’s injured service members and their families. At the center of the YRF’s extensive Mologne House Courtyard Renovation Project on the Walter Reed Medical Center, HBCF is set to construct a new accessible gazebo for wounded soldiers and their families to enjoy as a welcome retreat during their time of healing.
Montgomery County, Maryland
Dale Drive Apartments - As part of a collaborative team of public and private sector agencies and nonprofit organizations, including the Housing Opportunities Commission and the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless, HBCF served as a primary resource for the extensive rehabilitation of a 10-unit apartment complex in Silver Spring. The building now provides permanent, affordable and supportive housing for single disabled adults who are formerly homeless. The property was acquired by Montgomery County through its Housing Initiative Fund. The building was dedicated by the County in December 2007.
Hospice Caring – In June 2007, HBCF helped Hospice Caring celebrate the grand opening of its new spacious addition at The Cottage in Gaithersburg. A team from Mitchell & Best Homehuilders led the project from start to finish. The new space, a resource center for the community on bereavement issues, was named Joshua's Place after the late Josh Freeman of Carl Freeman Associates, an MNCBIA member. Hospice Caring provides free non-medical hospice services and bereavement programs throughout Montgomery County.
Housing Unlimited - Under the guidance of a team of builders from Ryan Homes, Inc., HBCF completed a whole kitchen renovation for a shared home for disabled adults in Rockville, Maryland. The residence, home to five adults with psychiatric disabilities, is owned and operated by Housing Unlimited, Inc. (HUI). The entire completion of the project took place in just one week in September which ensured minimal disruption in the lives of the home’s at-risk residents.
National Center for Children and Families (NCCF) –In December, Home Builders Care organized a Holiday Toy Collection to benefit the children and families at NCCF. MNCBIA members in attendance at the annual President's Luncheon generously donated toys and gifts. NCCF’s residential programs, including the Greentree Shelter in Bethesda, serve homeless families, victims of domestic violence and vulnerable adolescents. Other programs include treatment foster care, social services for family reunification, parenting education, independent living, and stabilizing families in the community.
The Wellness Community (TWC) – In April, HBCF assisted TWC with the installation of beautiful hardwood flooring in their new headquarters in Bethesda. TWC provides professionally-led support services, educational workshops, and mind-body classes that bring hope to persons with cancer and their loved ones. The in-kind construction assistance was funded by a contribution in memory of Michael T. Rose, a two-term Past-President of MNCBIA and an inspirational leader in the building community. Mr. Rose died of a brain tumor on February 23. Creative Touch Interiors provided its expertise to the project.
Prince George's County, Maryland
Hearts and Homes for Youth – In late-2007, HBCF made a commitment to make a list of improvements, including a complete roof replacement, at HHY’s Langworthy House in Hyattsville. The home provides long term residential treatment for young adolescent males with professional staff providing 24 hour supervision and all-important role modeling. HHY’s mission is to help troubled children and youth, who are abused, neglected or runaways, become independent, productive adults. Mid-Atlantic Builders is providing builder captain services.
Malta House - At this assisting living center for low-income adults in Hyattsville, HBCF helped Victory Housing replace nearly 8000 square feet of anti-microbial carpeting throughout the common areas of the facility as well as upgrade its flooring in the laundry room. Creative Touch Interiors provided its expertise to the project in early 2007.
Southern Maryland (Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's Counties)
United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Southern Maryland - HBCF helped UCP with two group homes in Waldorf. One home received a new state-of-the-art standby generator to provide a safe haven for its residents and for other disabled individuals in nearby UCP group homes. Another group home was adapted and enhanced to become a comfortable and accessible home for its four disabled residents. MNCBIA members Fireside Hearth and Home, MVI Services, and Pelican Services lent expertise to the project.

Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April - Since 2002, MNCBIA's Home Builders Care Foundation has fulfilled its commitment to participate in all Rebuilding Together and Christmas In April programs throughout all six MNCBIA jurisdictions.
