2008 President's Message

It is an honor to serve as the President of the Home Builders Care Foundation, the principal community outreach and charitable affiliate of the Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association (www.mncbia.org).

I have had the pleasure of serving on the Board for the past three years, and have quickly developed a deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication of my fellow HBCF Board members in serving the neediest citizens of our community. I have witnessed first hand numerous projects involving the careful construction and renovation of emergency shelters, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, long-term care residences, and other housing solutions for at-risk populations. I am proud of our accomplisments.

This Foundation has the ability to deliver shelter to the needy at a greatly reduced cost. As a non-profit that provides cost-effective solutions to other non-profits with shelter-related construction needs, an investment with our organization can yield a significant return, both in terms of the generated value of services, as well as the number of homeless and at-risk individuals our services can affect.

We have a history of enabling our community's non-profit care providers to preserve their valuable resources for their ongoing social programs. As builders, we do what we do best, and they, as social service providers, do what they do best. Many of the organizations we serve have goals to foster the self-sufficiency of its clients and end the cycles of homelessness. When our foundation is able to help these agencies improve housing and accommodations so that they are made safer and more comfortable, our community partner's comprehensive social services have the potential to be better given and received.

Home Builders Care carries out its mission through the efforts not only of a responsible and dedicated Board, but also with the generous financial and in-kind support of our entire Association membership. Our members have demonstrated time and again that BUILDERS WHO SHARE SHOW THAT THEY CARE is more than just a tag line.

Thank you for your continued support. With your help, I look forward to leading HBCF in another productive year of service.
