Gospel Rescue Ministries (GRM) operates one Washington DC's largest shelters for homeless men. The mission provides lodging facilities for over 100 homeless men each night, in addition to a number of other social service programs. The men who utilize the shelter come directly from the hard life of the streets, and may or may not have substance abuse or mental health issues.
GRM's building is 65-years-old and was in dire need of repairs and upgrades. Interior renovations were estimated to cost $107,000 with most of the work needed in the 3rd floor Samaritan Ministry Dormitory. Beds, lockers, showers and toilets are provided within the dorm, however, bathroom facilities were broken-down, the ventilation and lighting were poor, and the floors were primarily cold concrete.
The project, led by Miles Haber of Monument Construction, was generously supported by Richard Boales of Pritzker Residential and over one dozen subcontractors working on the nearby Massachusetts Court apartment complex in downtown Washington. The project received additional assistance from Ricky Diggs, a Samaritan student at GRM whom as part of his job training, was given the responsibility of day-to-day oversight of the process, working under the supervision of Mr. Haber.

Improvements, completed in December 2003, included the complete replacement and upgrade of lavatories on Level 1 and 3 including walls, toilets, showers, and all fixtures and finishes as well as renovation of Level 3 living quarters including flooring, tiles, lighting, and repairs to HVAC system. With a construction value of over $100,000, the renovation was completed by Home Builders Care for under $50,000.
Nearly all of the money raised by HBCF through the 2002 Help the Homeless Walkathon was spent on the project. The Gospel Rescue Ministries dedicated its newly renovated facilities shortly after completion, in December 2003. A plaque thanking the Home Builders Care Foundation for its contribution is on display in the GRM lobby.
