Annual Holiday Collections

Hundreds of Bags of Food are Collected Annually at MNCBIA's November Dinner Meeting Every Year, HBCF Delivers Many Stockingfuls of Toys to Needy Children

Sharing our Blessings During the Holidays
Each and every year, the Home Builders Care Foundation organizes at least two holiday drives to benefit local community organizations serving the needy.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

At the November Dinner Meeting of the Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association (MNCBIA) Home Builders Care collects bags of food from association members and their guests. The non-perishable food items that are collected are then donated to a local food pantry serving the homeless and other at-risk individuals needing assistance. Our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive regulary nets hundreds of bags of food thanks to the generosity of the building community. In addition to the food, Home Builders Care contributes gift certficates to area grocery stores for the purchase of additional items.

In 2006, Our annual food drive benefits United Communites Against Poverty (UCAP), a Prince George's County organization dedicated to serving the needs of low-to-moderate-income residents through services and programs that not only alleviate the symptoms of poverty, but also address the causes of poverty.

In 2004 and 2005, the Southern Maryland Food Bank was the selected beneficiary. The Southern Maryland Food Bank serves as an indispensable storehouse and distribution center for the area - providing food to 53 area soup kitchens, shelters, group homes, day care providers, church food pantries and other charitable community assistance organizations throughout Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's Counties. Nearly 300,000 pounds of food are distributed annually to the Southern Maryland community.

Our 2003 beneficiary, the Transitional Housing Program of Prince George's County, is an extension of the emergency shelters of Prince George's County. The program, designed to help homeless families achieve self-sufficiency and eventually move into permanent housing, serves approximately 36 families at a time. In addition to providing a homelike environment, services are also provided to help meet the needs of the residents and get them involved in the community with job training, youth programs and more.

In 2002, the drive benefited the food pantry at the Community Service for Autistic Adults and Children (CSAAC), a private, nonprofit agency dedicated to serving persons affected by the severely incapacitating, lifelong developmental disability. With a mission to support individuals with autism to achieve their personal goals and dreams with integrity and distinction, CSAAC operates 53 facilities throughout Montgomery County.

Holiday Toy Drive

In early December at the annual President's Luncheon, members of the Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association (MNCBIA) contribute greatly to the Home Builders Care Foundation's Holiday Toy Collection. At the event, toys, games, clothing and other items are generously donated. Please click to view this year's wish list of needed gifts.

In 2006, toys will be collected and donated to needy children in residence with Montgomery Housing Partnership. MHP is the largest nonprofit developer of quality affordable housing in Montgomery County. They currently manage over 900 units. Their award-winning community life programs for children include pre-school programs, after-school programs for elementary school children that include a homework club, reading program, and computer classes; a summer enrichment program; and a teen club for older youth.

Our 2005 beneficiary was the National Center for Children and Families (NCCF) in Bethesda. NCCF is a private, nonprofit agency with a 90-year commitment to serving families in the national capital area. NCCF’s residential programs, including the Greentree Shelter in Bethesda, serve homeless families, victims of domestic violence and vulnerable adolescents. Other programs include treatment foster care, social services for family reunification, parenting education, independent living, and stabilizing families in the community.

In 2004, Collected toys for children ages Newborn to 17 years, were be donated to homeless families who are residing within Prince George's County's homeless shelters, temporary and transitional housing facilities this holiday. The Prince George's County Department of Social Services provides intervention services that strengthens families, protects children and vulnerable adults, encourages self-sufficiency and promotes personal responsibility. One of the County's largest homeless shelters is Shepherd's Cove in Capitol Heights, a 100-bed facility for women and children. Home Builders Care Foundation is also undertaking a renovation project at the shelter.

In 2003, the numerous toys collected at the annual luncheon were delivered to the St. Ann's Infant and Maternity Home in Hyattsville, MD. St. Ann's provides emergency placement and short-term residential care for 50 infants and young children, ages two days through twelve years, who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned. Their goal for each child is to offer a caring, comfortable, and reassuring environment and to provide services based on a complete assessment of the child's physical, emotional, developmental, and educational needs. The program serves about 250 children annually.
