In the winter of 2005-2006, The Home Builders Care Foundation commenced construction at the Shepherds Cove Shelter in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Operated by the Prince George's County Department of Social Services, Shepherds Cove is a 100-bed emergency and transitional shelter for homeless women and children.

All four heavily-used bathrooms in the shelter were completely gutted and refurbished through the Home Builders Care program. The construction value of the project was originally estimated by County sources to be over $100,000. However, through an in-kind matching-fund arrangement with HBCF, the county has saved well over $60,000 in construction costs. Renovations to the bathrooms included new floors, entry doors, partitions, improved lighting and fresh coats of paint. In addition, three new accessible shower stalls, new toilets and upgraded vanities were installed in each of the four bathrooms to better meet the needs of the residents and staff.
A team from Bozzuto Homes, Inc. (BHI) provided key project management and coordination services. Marty Neitzey of Prince George's County's Office of Central Facilities served as project manager on behalf of the shelter. Bozzuto's team was led by HBCF Board member Mark Barberich,, Senior Vice President/Director of Homebuilding Services, Pre-Construction/Purchasing Manager David Coppersmith, and Onsite Supervisor/Manager Bill Barton, who graciously postponed his retirement by a month in order to complete the project. Ten additional subcontractors are also contributing to the project. They include:
- Baltimore Door and Frame
- Creative Touch Interiors
- Frank Waters Inc.
- G & I Contracting
- J.O Construction
- JW & Sons Drywall
- Masters Inc.
- Metropolitan Industries Inc.
- REICO
- Rommel Electrical Systems
