Home Builders Care is the Maryland Building Industry Association's (MBIA) official charity and its principal way for BUILDERS to GIVE BACK.
In order to help others in need of shelter and support, the Home Builders Care program depends on you and members of the association – the dedicated builders, suppliers, contractors, and professionals of MBIA – who are willing to step up and help out on projects by sharing their expertise. On the afternoon of April 15, 2021 we were proud to recognize an exemplary MBIA member for their significant contributions to help wounded veterans in need of a safe, supportive and healing environment. Congratulations to Pella Mid-Atlantic who was honored with the Home Builders Care Tom Sawyer Award. In 2020, Pella stepped up big for Patriot Point, a retreat center for our nation’s wounded, ill and injured service members and their families in Dorchester County, Maryland. A little background. In early 2019, Home Builders Care pledged its assistance to help with the exterior renovation of Patriot Point’s main house, a large three-story waterfront structure that dates back to the 1920s. Then over the next 18 months, through Home Builders Care’s involvement with the renovation, we documented that our industry members donated close to $300,000 worth of materials and labor to the renovation project, which amounted to about half of the renovation’s overall value. The building needed everything – new decking, siding, roofing and windows to help keep the house weathertight, safe and functional. The biggest ticket item was the windows. And that’s where Pella really stepped up. When they heard about the project at an Eastern Shore chapter meeting, the Pella team based in Rehoboth Beach made the incredible effort to expertly provide and install close to $100,000 worth of custom fitted windows in early 2020. Their generosity has made a significant difference at Patriot Point and as we have heard in the video you just saw, the improvements mean the world to the many veterans heading to Patriot point in need of a safe place for relaxation and healing. 2020 has certainly been a challenging and breathtaking year for all of us. We are grateful at least to mark the year in gratitude for the generous spirit of Pella and all of our industry member supporters. David Lebowitz - General Manager - Pella Mid-Atlantic - Eastern Shore Branch - accepted the award from HBCF President John DeZinno. The cooperation, dedication and spirit of our 2020 Community Service Award Winner is an excellent example of why the Home Builders Care program is successful in helping improve the lives of at-risk individuals and families in our communities. Congratulations and thank you to Pella Mid-Atlantic! |
