In-Kind Contributions
Project-specific cash and in-kind contributions are generally solicited and generated as new projects are undertaken. Please contact the HBCF office at 301-776-6212 for more information as to our current or future needs.

Key Elements of Our Fundraising Policy
Home Builders Care Foundation does not hire outside fund raisers or pay fund raisers on a percentage basis. Volunteers who solicit contributions for Home Builders Care Foundation are monitored by our Board of Directors.

The Home Builders Care Foundation will inform all donors of its intentions for using donated funds and assure donors that their gifts will be used for the purpose in which they were given. When funds are accepted by HBCF with conditions, Home Builders Care Foundation will honor those conditions to the best of its ability.

Requests by donors to remain anonymous, have their names removed from mailing lists, or restrict telephone appeals will be honored. Information about donors that should be private will not be made public. Home Builders Care Foundation does not sell or share our donor list(s) except with MBIA, our affiliate association.

Home Builders Care Foundation may elect to refuse gifts of cash, securities, real estate or other items of value if the board of directors has reason to believe such gifts are inappropriate or if it determined that the gift would not further our mission. All questionable gifts will be brought to the attention of the executive committee for guidance on a case-by-case basis.

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

  1. To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization's governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  3. To have access to the organization's most recent financial statements.
  4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  5. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
  6. To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
  8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
  9. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.
  10. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

The Donor Bill of Rights was created by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and the Giving Institute: Leading Consultants to Non-Profits. It has been endorsed by numerous organizations. Officially adopted by the Home Builders Care Foundation Board of Directors on April 16, 2009.

MID-ATLANTIC BUILDERS
"RARELY DOES ONE MEET A MORE DEDICATED GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS INVOLVED IN COMMUNITY SERVICE THAN WITH THE HBCF. IT IS THE SINGLE MOST EFFICIENT ORGANIZATION I'VE EVER WORKED WITH. THEY LEVERAGE THEIR DONOR DOLLARS WITH TREMENDOUS INDUSTRY INVOLVEMENT AND VOLUNTEER LABOR TO ACCOMPLISH THEIR GOALS."
