CONGRATS LARRY HOGAN ON BEING HONORED WITH HBCF'S FOUNDER’S AWARD
(Fulton, Maryland) – The Home Builders Care Foundation (HBCF), a 501(c)(3) Maryland-based nonprofit organization, awarded Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan with the charity’s Robert L. Mitchell Founders Award at the Annual Bull & Oyster Roast on September 10th.
The Founders Award recognizes a lifetime of leadership and commitment to community and charitable service and is the charity’s highest honor. Proceeds from the event supports Home Builders Care and its charitable construction program.
Since its inception, HBCF has helped hundreds of nonprofits undertake shelter-related construction projects for the homeless and others in need of shelter and care. Projects are completed by utilizing the skills and resources of building industry members of the Maryland Building Industry Association (MBIA). HBCF was incorporated in Maryland in 1984 and this year marks the nonprofit’s 40th Anniversary. The charity obtained its tax-exempt status from the IRS in 1985.
Governor Hogan understands the value of HBCF’s mission of giving back to community. In fact, he served on the charity’s first board of directors back in 1985, when it was organized as the Operation Tom Sawyer Foundation. During the same year, Governor Hogan founded HOGAN, a leading real estate services firm specializing in brokerage, consulting, investment and development of land, commercial and residential properties. HOGAN has been an active member of the building association for nearly 40 years and the company has a long history of supporting HBCF and other charities for many years.
In 2003, Hogan took a four-year leave of absence from his business to serve as Maryland's secretary of appointments under Maryland Governor Bob Ehrlich. He founded Change Maryland, a nonprofit anti-tax advocacy organization in 2011 and in 2014, Mr. Hogan was elected as the 62nd Governor of Maryland serving from 2015-2023. He also served as chair of the National Governors Association from 2019 to 2020.
