The Home Builders Care Foundation's MissionThe mission of the Home Builders Care Foundation (HBCF) is to give back by utilizing the skills and resources of building industry members on shelter-related construction for the homeless and others at-risk.
Our efforts help community non-profits and local governments meet the challenges of caring for our neighbors in need. We leverage our industry’s strengths to save agencies thousands of dollars in the construction process. We make projects feasible. |
Our History |
How We Do It |
HBCF was established in the early 1980s as Operation Tom Sawyer and functioned as the charitable arm of what was then the Suburban Maryland Building Industry Association. Our founder, Robert L. Mitchell, believed that home builders have a responsibility to serve the needs of growing communities and families and make every home a part of that community. Everyone deserves the dignity of a home.
Since our inception, HBCF has made significant in-kind contributions of more than $25,000,000 worth of materials and labor to projects assisting the homeless and others at risk in the communities we serve. The total value of our projects is estimated to be more than double that amount. |
Home Builders Care Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides cost-effective solutions to other non-profits with shelter-related construction needs.
With each project, we invest in our non-profit partners’ program efforts via our in-kind contributions of construction services and they in turn invest in the continuation and expansion of social services and programs to help keep vulnerable populations safely housed and on the path to stability. By donating building materials and professional construction services, our industry plays a key role in helping end homelessness and improving the quality of life for others in need. Our TerritoryThe Home Builders Care Foundation (HBCF) is the 501 (c) (3) official charity of the Maryland Building Industry Association serving most of the state of Maryland and Washington DC:
