50 for your foundation

We're looking for 50 MBIA members to donate at least $50 this Giving Tuesday!

Can we count on you?

Did you know....that last year during the month of December, only 30+ builders contributed to our year-end giving campaign.      Where is your commitment?

Did you know...that since 2016, the counted homeless in Maryland is up 13%?  (source: 2018 HUD annual homeless assessment report)

Did you know....that HBCF shelter projects not only help the homeless but also veterans, the disabled, persons suffering from serious illness, and victims of domestic violence?

Did you know....that every project we take on is ONLY MADE POSSIBLE with your support?

Donor Appreciation Event Held at the Maryland Center for Housing

11/4/2019

On September 12, MBIA and Home Builders Care hosted a special event to celebrate the benefactors of our industry’s home in Maple Lawn, the Maryland Center for Housing.

The Center is a 10,000 sq. ft.  two-story office building that was constructed largely in part with in-kind donations of materials and labor, as well as cash donations, from many generous building industry members, led by the late Stewart J. Greenebaum and his company Greenebaum Enterprises.

The highlight of the evening was a special dedication ceremony to Mr. Greenebaum, who graciously donated the land for MBIA’s headquarters.  It was his goal that other professionals in our industry would visit Maple Lawn and be inspired to build quality communities and leave the world a better place. Stewart J. Greenebaum passed away on December 10, 2017.

Michael Greenebaum, Stewart’s son, spoke at the dedication.  He acknowledged that he feels the closest to his dad when he drives into Maple Lawn.  “It’s just a great honor to have my father’s plaque here with those words.  It means so much to me and to his family and also to Mark Bennett, because (Maple Lawn) was the shared vision and every time I come here I think of my father...I couldn’t be prouder. This was really our life’s work creating Maple Lawn. My father always knew this would be a place people would go…it’s become such a showcase… to have the homebuilding industry and to have your building here so all of you can come.  Our industry is a great industry and we really set the example, and even when we get sometimes maligned…this shows that we can do great things together….From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you and it means a lot. ”

The building project was a true building community effort with 179 industry members contributing to its construction and capital campaign. The groundbreaking for the building took place on November 21, 2011and a grand opening celebration took place on June 18, 2014. It has been valued at $1.8 million. Owned by the Home Builders Care Foundation, and rented to the Maryland Building Industry Association, the mortgage to the building was officially paid off in December 2017.

The Maryland Center for Housing now serves as the headquarters for Maryland’s residential building industry and is home to its advocacy, networking and education activities.  We are forever grateful for the generosity and support of our donors who made our home possible.  Thank you donors!
